Known as the Ellis Island of Canada, the national historic site was used as a quarantine site for immigrants to the new world. Part of the interpretive strategy was to provide effective but low impact infrastructure to mark and communicate the events of national significance that took place on this tiny island in the Bay of Saint John. Interpretive clear acrylic panels of past hospital and quarantine buildings that demonstrate where structures were without disturbing the existing landscape. Ship markers can be used to identify the immigrants who arrived.
